We have gone to see Brandon twice today. He is doing really well. He has been lying on his side which he seems to love. He has been sucking on a pacifier for the first time today and really loves it! Overall he is doing really well. We found out he has a PDA which is a heart murmur. He will be given neoprophin 3 times, 24 hours apart, which should close it. PDA's are very common in babies born from 26-29 weeks and are not a concern. He saw a cardiologist today who confirmed that. Brandon has been under a bilirubin (jaundice) light since yesterday since his levels are a little high. Again very common. I am posting some pictures from today. We were able to put some things in his incubator today...a stuffed elephant, a picture of Stu and me, a picture of Hershey, and a fire patch from Oakhurst. It makes his incubator much more homey looking. The new incubator is regulating his temperature. The nurse gave us one of his diapers. They are actually a little big on him. It is the same size as my cell phone.
Dear Brandon, Hi this Amare Quince. I wanted to let you know that everything will be fine in the NICU. The nurses are really nice and the pacifiers are top notch. Don't worry about the jaundice either, it will go away and they let me wear some cool cloth sunglasses to protect my eyes, it makes you look like a super hero. The lil needles don't even hurt and they make for cool stories and pictures when you get older. We send love from Texas and can't wait till your home. Love Amare, Gyasi, and Missy Quince
Karen and Stuart: We are following the news from New Zealand and glad to hear that Brandon is doing better and that you two are able to visit often. It is a joyous event and we are glad to have had the opportunity to tune into the blog and find out about it. (Carolyn gave us the url.) We look forward to hearing more about Brandon as he grows up and seeing you all in a future trip to the US. Love, Steven and Maggie Gray
My name is Karen and I have been married to my husband Stu for a little over 9 years. I was pregnant with twins and lost our baby girl at 20 1/2 weeks after I had premature rupture of membranes. I stayed pregnant with the other baby and our first child, Brandon Tyler, was born on July 5, 2008 at 26 weeks and 1 day. Our second child, Wesley Matthew, was born full term on June 29, 2011. This blog is documenting our children.
