A Boy and His Dog

Virtual Learning- Week 2

We made it through week 2 of virtual learning/teaching.

Wesley and I both had virtual learning spirit days this week.

Monday- Pajama day for Wesley
Hat day at my school with my kindergarten team
Wesley had an assignment from the guidance counselor at his school to draw a rainbow to hang in the window. They are trying to get all of the students in Ocean to draw one and hang it for everyone to see.
Tuesday- Sports Shirt Day
Zoom meeting with his G&T teacher and other G&T students. He was so happy to "see" some of his friends and teacher on zoom.
The local teachers from Wesley's school drove through town in a caravan of cars on Tuesday afternoon to wave at the students. This picture was taken by one of my friends. As you can see we did our social distancing. We are across the street from our friends house at the corner. It was nice waving to some of our friends and saying hi from a distance.
Wednesday- Bright color day
Brandon had bring your pet to class for one of his zoom class hangouts
Thursday- Ocean spirit wear
Another zoom hangout with one of his teachers and classes
Friday- mismatched day
So excited to have a zoom hangout with his teacher and class
Wesley's picture from art "class"
A social distance visit with my parents since it was so nice out
This is the new way to go to Kane brewery to buy beer

Gus, our new dog

On Saturday we got a new dog. We rescued him from a local rescue group. He is a 4 year old cattle dog mix. So far he is really calm and laid back and really just wants to be wherever we are. He came with the name Gus.

Virtual Learning- Week 1

Virtual learning started last Tuesday, March 17th for my school and on Wednesday, March 18th for my school. We are having Virtual Learning since we can't go to school due to the Coronavirus. We also are not currently allowed to be within 6 feet of everyone. Restaurants, movie theaters, stores except for grocery stores and hardware stores, are all shut down. Sports have all stopped. It is a very surreal world that we are currently living in. Thank goodness for technology because we are all trying our best to go on with learning and teaching. It is definitely much harder teaching my kindergarten students while teaching 3rd and 6th grade at home to my own children. Stu is still working since he is considered an essential employee.

Our kitchen table ready for Virtual Learning.
Virtual Learning Day 1 for Brandon and Wesley. Both of their schools wanted them to wear their school spirit wear to start Virtual Learning.
Virtual Learning has begun. Brandon is doing his work everyday at the kitchen counter and Wesley is at the dining room table. I spend my day going back and forth between them while doing my own teaching with my students in a google hangout and through email.
The daily schedule that I made for Brandon and Wesley. They sometimes decide to start their afternoon earlier than 1 so they are finished earlier in the afternoon. I do make them stop for a recess every day.
Virtual Spirit Week for Brandon- wear a hat
Indoor recess on a rainy day
A funny meme that I found
Virtual Spirit Week for Brandon- twin day (technically they were supposed to dress the same as a friend if they had school but Wesley was the next best thing)
Mismatched socks for World Down Syndrome Awareness Day at my school for Virtual Spirit Week

Happy Birthday Grandma Gail

H.E.R.O Night

Brandon is taking a class this year called Connections. In Connections they had 4 community service projects to come up with and do. If they did all 4 on time they were inducted into the H.E.R.O hall of fame. A few weeks ago they had a really nice ceremony for those kids. I am so proud of Brandon and the projects that he chose to do.

Asbury Park St. Patrick's Day Parade

Basketball

Brandon and Wesley both played rec basketball this season and both had a fantastic season. Brandon beat his goal of scoring 10 points during the season and Wesley surprised us all by scoring between 20-30 points in the season. Wesley's coaches had a party after the last game at one of their houses and presented the team with their participation trophies. At Brandon's age group they no longer get participation trophies.

G&T trip

Wesley went on a field trip with his G&T class to a creation studio in Belmar. He had a really fun time on the trip. They did wiring and coding.
